2027: Obi and Kwankwaso Differ on How to Make Petrol Cheaper

Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso have presented different approaches to fuel subsidy as the Nigeria Democratic Congress prepares for the 2027 election. Kwankwaso said an Obi-led government would bring back subsidy in a different form, including investing in more refineries to expand local production and lower petrol prices. He said the party would take steps to ensure Nigerians can buy fuel at a reasonable cost. Obi has maintained that the old subsidy regime was unsustainable. He argues that savings from subsidy removal should be transparently invested in healthcare, education, agriculture and other productive sectors, while providing better support for Nigerians facing higher living costs.
