Ogun Suspends Eselu of Iselu Over Alleged Partisan Political Activities
The Ogun State Government has suspended the Eselu of Iselu Kingdom in Yewa North, Oba Akintunde Akinyemi, over allegations of partisan political activity. The State Executive Council said the suspension will remain in force while the allegations are investigated. In a letter dated October 20, 2026, the government cited the Ogun State Obas and Chiefs Law, 2021. The monarch was directed to vacate the palace, stop presenting himself as the Eselu and refrain from using royal regalia during the suspension. He was also asked to appear before any government panel convened on the matter. The development has drawn attention because of Ogun's 2027 governorship contest. Unverified claims from anonymous sources linked the suspension to Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola's political ambitions and alleged threats against other traditional rulers. No independent evidence was provided for those claims, and no date has been announced for the investigation hearing.
