Davido, Erigga and the Debate Over Privilege, Success and Bitterness

I do not usually get involved in celebrity disputes, but the conversation around Davido and Erigga raises a wider issue: how Nigerians react to privilege and success. Nobody should be mocked for being born poor, and nobody should be blamed for being born into wealth. Whether Erigga’s post was aimed at Davido or not, Davido did not choose the family he was born into. Privilege may give someone a head start, but it does not automatically erase their personal effort or achievements. Too often, people respond to another person’s progress with suspicion or insults. A new car becomes proof of “ritual,” while success is dismissed because of someone’s background or talent. Criticism is fair, but resentment should not become a substitute for building one’s own life. Instead of blaming others for the opportunities they had, we should focus on creating better opportunities for ourselves and our children. Success should inspire hard work, not bitterness.
