South African Police Arrest Two Nigerians as Suspected Drugs Worth ₦125m Are Seized in Gqeberha

South African police have arrested two Nigerian nationals after suspected drugs valued at about R1.5 million, or ₦125 million, were seized during an operation in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape. Police said the operation followed intelligence about alleged drug dealing on Parliament Street in the city centre. Officers reportedly found suspected drugs in and around a rented Mercedes-Benz, including dagga, tik, khat, cocaine and mandrax tablets. A suspect was allegedly found hiding in the vehicle's boot, while a key found on him led officers to a flat where more suspected drugs, smoking pipes, syringes, a scale and cash were recovered. A third man was also arrested after police found him with cash he allegedly could not explain. The two Nigerians have appeared before the Gqeberha Magistrate's Court on drug-possession-related charges. The case was adjourned to August 31, 2026.
