New Wharf Truck Owners’ Union Seeks Role in Nigeria’s Port Policy Decisions

The Amalgamated Union of Wharf Truck Owners of Nigeria has inaugurated its national officers in Lagos after receiving formal registration on July 27, 2026. The union says it will represent truck owners involved in moving crude oil, raw materials and other cargo from Nigerian ports. Its leaders want the Federal Government and relevant agencies to consult operators when developing policies on port logistics and road transport. National President Adeyemi Bamidele said cargo delays, congestion and inefficient trucking affect businesses, livelihoods and the wider economy. He pledged that the union would promote professionalism, accountability and better operating conditions while opposing extortion and touting. The Ministry of Labour and Employment urged the new body to resolve disputes through dialogue, maintain transparent records, audit its accounts annually and conduct elections in line with its constitution.
