I Moved to Germany to Help My Parents, but I Am Struggling Alone
I am 29 and a graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. After struggling to find stable work in Nigeria, my parents sold property and used their savings to help me move to Germany. We all believed it would give me a better chance to build a career and support them. Life here has been far harder than I expected. My degree has not easily opened doors because of language barriers, qualification requirements and limited experience. I take whatever work I can find, but rent, food, transport, insurance, taxes and other bills consume most of my income. My parents think I am doing well, and I keep telling them I am fine because I do not want them to regret their sacrifice. Some days, I cut down on food so I can send them a little money. I feel pressure to prove that their decision to send me abroad was worth it. I am now considering whether to keep trying in Germany or return to Nigeria and rebuild from home. I do not want to decide while exhausted, but I also do not want to keep suffering in silence. What practical advice would you give me?
