Two Charged in UK as Nigeria Probes Linked 184.5kg Cocaine Seizure
A man and a woman have been charged with international drug-trafficking offences in the UK after police seized more than 180kg of cocaine on 5 August. Oladipupo Atandare, 50, and Latifat Yusuf, 44, were arrested in east London and remanded in custody after appearing before a magistrates’ court. They are due at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 7 September. The Metropolitan Police said the charges relate only to the UK seizure. However, Nigerian authorities are also investigating the discovery of 184.5kg of cocaine in boxes at a Lagos courier facility, as well as several related arrests. The case has again raised concerns about Nigerians allegedly linked to drug-trafficking networks abroad and the reputational damage such cases can cause.
