Borno Troops Rescue Two Abducted Mothers and Their Children
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai rescued Maryam Muhammad (20) and her son Bello (16 months) after they escaped from a terrorist enclave in the Mandara Mountains. They were abducted during an attack on Ngoshe Community in Gwoza LGA on March 3, 2026. Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba said intensified bombardment forced their captors, led by a commander named Saha, to abandon the hostages. Maryam and Bello managed to flee and link up with troops securing the area. In a separate incident, 19-year-old Binta Umaru and her two-year-old daughter Hafsat Ibrahim also escaped a nearby insurgent hideout. Both surrendered to soldiers deployed along the Gwoza–Limankara road and are now undergoing screening and care. The Joint Task Force says continued offensive operations are breaking terrorist support structures, leading to more rescues, increased insurgent surrenders, and improved security in the North East.
