Shettima Returns After Leading Nigeria’s Delegation to UN General Assembly

Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Nigeria after representing President Bola Tinubu at the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. At the General Debate, Shettima delivered Nigeria’s national statement and renewed calls for UN Security Council reform, including permanent African representation. Nigeria also called for fairer global financing, stronger climate support and deeper multilateral cooperation. The vice president also attended meetings on Africa’s minerals strategy, education financing, ECOWAS cooperation and diaspora engagement. He urged African countries to expand mineral processing and manufacturing rather than rely on raw-material exports.
