Cross River Farmer Arrested Over Alleged Double Homicide
A 57-year-old farmer, Akan Patrick, was arrested by the Cross River State Police for the alleged killing of two youths in Odukpani LGA. The state’s police spokesman confirmed that the case began when Patrick’s wife reported him missing after he failed to return from his farm in the Okong community. Police investigations led to Patrick’s arrest. During questioning he admitted to the killings but claimed self-defence. He says two local youths once threatened him over 14 bags of cannabis and later attacked him. He pushed them into a river, where they drowned, and kept silent out of fear due to his illegal hemp cultivation. Patrick remains in custody as police finalize their investigation. He will be arraigned in court once charges are filed.
