Congolese Cyclist Dies in Crash During 17-Country Peace Ride Across Africa

Congolese cyclist Miguel Masaisai has died in a road crash while undertaking a 17-country journey across Africa to promote peace. The 23-year-old from Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo, began his Pedals for Peace ride on May 1. He planned to cycle about 14,000 kilometres from Goma to Rabat, Morocco, and had covered more than 6,500 kilometres before reaching Kinshasa and continuing into Congo-Brazzaville. On September 18, his bicycle developed a fault and he boarded a taxi to get it repaired. The taxi reportedly crashed into a truck near Ouesso, close to the Congo-Cameroon border. Masaisai, the driver and two other passengers died. He had previously cycled from Goma to Cape Town, South Africa, in 2025.
