10 Things I Would Do Differently If I Started My Business Again
If I had to start my business again, I would still choose business. But I would think differently from day one. In Nigeria’s tough business climate, hard work, good products and experience are not always enough to sustain growth. I would focus earlier on scale, systems and customers that can buy repeatedly. Rather than doing every task myself, I would build processes, delegate responsibilities and target bulk buyers, corporate organisations and long-term partnerships. I would also build a clear brand and customer database from the beginning. I would take financial records more seriously. Turnover is not profit, and profit is not cash flow. I would track stock, expenses, margins, monthly profit and personal withdrawals before deciding where to reinvest. Most importantly, I would stop confusing being busy with making progress. I would ask whether each decision helps build a business that can grow beyond me, rather than one that depends entirely on my daily effort.
