Buratai Urges AI, Drones and Community Intelligence to Fight Terrorism and Banditry
Former Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai has urged Nigeria to combine artificial intelligence, drone surveillance and stronger intelligence-sharing with military operations to tackle terrorism, banditry and kidnapping. Speaking at a national security conference in Abuja, he said military force can win battles but cannot deliver lasting peace on its own. He called for strategies that address extremist recruitment, criminal financing, poverty, marginalisation and weak community trust in security agencies. Buratai said technology should support, not replace, information from local residents. He also urged closer cooperation among the military, police and intelligence services, while asking journalists to verify security reports and avoid amplifying terrorist propaganda without compromising media freedom.
