Four Governors Grant Clemency to 264 Inmates for Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary
Governors in Plateau, Kogi, Taraba and Adamawa states granted pardons, sentence remissions and commutations to 264 inmates and convicts to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary. A total of 257 inmates were released. Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang pardoned 130 inmates and commuted four death sentences to life imprisonment. Kogi Governor Usman Ododo granted clemency to 101 beneficiaries, while Taraba Governor Agbu Kefas pardoned 24 reformed inmates. In Adamawa, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri pardoned nine inmates and commuted one death sentence to life imprisonment. The governors said the decisions considered rehabilitation, good conduct, health, remorse and humanitarian grounds.
