Oyo Police Say Attempted Arrest of Tani Olohun in Ibadan Was Based on Court Warrant
The Oyo State Police Command says officers seen in a viral video struggling to take traditional religion practitioner Tani Olohun from his Ibadan home were police operatives from Kwara State on official duty. The command said the officers were acting on an arrest warrant issued by an Upper Ilorin Magistrates’ Court over allegations of conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace. It said the warrant followed his alleged failure to meet earlier bail conditions. Residents had raised alarm during the incident, believing the armed men in plain clothes were kidnappers. Oyo police said its commissioner directed the Kwara officers to return to their base and advised the complainant to pursue the matter through the appropriate court in Ibadan, where the alleged offence occurred.
