Nigeria Decides 2027: Campaigns Must Focus on Issues and Practical Solutions
Nigeria’s 2027 election campaigns should focus on national issues, workable solutions and clear policy plans rather than abuse, vendettas and the destruction of opponents’ reputations. After more than 25 years of democratic rule, our politics should move beyond winner-takes-all battles, witch-hunting and attempts to silence opponents. Candidates at every level must be questioned about their competence, character, track record and understanding of the people’s problems. Leadership in a diverse society requires vision, wisdom, integrity and the ability to turn challenges into opportunities. Holding a leadership role in an office, religious body or family does not automatically prepare anyone to govern a multicultural population. We must vote wisely, because poor choices can leave citizens trapped under damaging policies for years.
