Navy Chief Orders Personnel to Remain Neutral Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Idi Abbas, has directed naval personnel to remain apolitical, non-partisan and professional ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking at the Navy’s third-quarter route march, Abbas said military support for elections must stay within the law, the Constitution and authorised directives. He warned personnel against statements, associations or activities that could compromise the service’s neutrality. He also urged officers and ratings to maintain physical fitness, mental resilience and operational readiness for counter-terrorism, counter-insurgency and other joint security operations.
