BBNaija Is Evolving, Not Losing Relevance
I believe the claim that BBNaija is losing relevance confuses the decline in pay-TV subscriptions with the reach of the franchise itself. Nigeria’s economic pressure has reduced DStv and GOtv subscriptions, but that does not prove that Nigerians have stopped following, discussing and engaging with the show. BBNaija now reaches audiences through streaming, short videos, memes, fan communities, livestreams and social-media conversations. Many viewers follow housemates and major moments without watching full broadcasts on a decoder. The show’s growing digital footprint reflects a changing media market, not necessarily a dying franchise. The continued participation of about 25 brands in the 2026 season also suggests that advertisers still see value in BBNaija’s audience, celebrity-making power and ability to drive national conversation. The real question is whether the show can keep delivering enough digital and cultural value to justify its sponsorship costs, not whether it has already become irrelevant.
