Tinubu Says He Shares Nigerians’ Market Pain While Defending Reforms
President Bola Tinubu says he understands the hardship Nigerians have faced under his economic reforms, though he described himself as a comfortable man who does not know the pain of the market. He made the remarks at an APC rally in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, on Friday, while urging residents to support his 2027 re-election bid. Tinubu argued that the reforms were necessary to prevent the country from sliding into bankruptcy. He claimed that 27 of Nigeria’s 36 governors could not meet salary obligations when he took office, and said the naira could have lost nearly all its value without difficult decisions. He also described the 2027 election as consequential for Nigeria’s future.
