Why Some Companies May Have Left Nigeria After Tinubu Took Office
I believe some multinational companies left Nigeria because stricter revenue expectations made it harder to sustain the tax practices they previously relied on. In my view, weak tax administration allowed some firms to underpay taxes through arrangements involving corrupt officials. When the Federal Government began demanding that sectors meet expected revenue targets, those loopholes became more difficult to maintain. If companies were required to pay their full tax obligations, their profits and sales targets could be affected. This may have contributed to the decision of some firms to exit the country, although each company may have had other reasons as well.
