Two Killed After Gunmen Attack Ebonyi Assembly Candidate’s Convoy
Two suspected attackers were reportedly killed after gunmen opened fire on the convoy of Rollins Offia Nwali, the Nigeria Democratic Congress candidate for Ebonyi State House of Assembly in Ezza South. The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday as Nwali’s team returned from Amazekewe community. Sources said security personnel attached to the candidate returned fire after the convoy came under attack. Nwali said his Toyota Hilux was set ablaze, but he and his team escaped unharmed. One deceased attacker was identified by sources as Jude Nwamgbada, while the death of a second person in hospital had not been independently confirmed. The alleged attackers’ identities, political affiliations and full circumstances of the shooting remain unverified. Nwali appealed to young people not to be drawn into political violence. The reported attack comes amid wider allegations of attacks on NDC members and supporters in parts of the South-East ahead of the 2027 elections. Police in Ebonyi had not responded at the time of the report.
