Adeleke Orders Coroner’s Inquest Into Ikire Killings and Shootings
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has issued an executive order setting up a coroner’s inquest and panel of inquiry into the killings, shootings, injuries and violence reported at Naira and Kobo Junction and the Motor Park area of Ikire on August 24, 2026. The panel, chaired by Magistrate Ayokunle Shiyanbola, will establish the number and identities of victims, determine the immediate and remote causes of the violence, and identify any possible criminal responsibility. It will also examine the role of security operatives, including whether live ammunition or other weapons were used and whether such actions complied with the law, rules of engagement and human rights standards. The order takes effect on August 31.
