Ogun State to Launch Safety Commission and Statewide Industrial Audit

The Ogun State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives, property and the environment by strengthening industrial safety through better regulation, training and risk management. At a workshop in Abeokuta, the Commissioner for Environment announced plans to upgrade the existing Safety Office into a full Ogun State Safety Commission. This new agency will boost policy implementation, technical oversight, enforcement and collaboration with industry stakeholders. A comprehensive statewide industrial safety audit will soon identify gaps, improve compliance and encourage continuous improvement instead of punitive measures. Recent inspections showed that many facilities have written safety policies but struggle with consistent workplace practices. Participants were urged to view safety as a leadership role and key performance indicator alongside productivity and profitability. This training aligns with the Ministry’s strategic vision for 2026–2028 to strengthen institutional capacity, regulatory effectiveness and industrial resilience.
