Sowore Challenges Atiku and Amaechi Over Proposed Return of Petrol Subsidy
AAC presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has criticised Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi over the renewed debate on petrol subsidy. Sowore said they took nearly a decade to adopt a position his party has long supported. He argued that Nigerians have borne severe economic hardship since subsidy removal. Atiku has proposed a targeted subsidy for locally refined petrol if elected in 2027. He says the plan would include preferential crude supply, spending limits and independent monitoring. The dispute has revived debate over whether Nigeria should retain market-based fuel pricing or introduce targeted support to lower petrol costs.
