Shehu Sani Tells ADC to Seek Nigerian Votes, Not US or EU Validation
Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has criticised the African Democratic Congress, ADC, over efforts linked to opposition figures to draw international attention to President Bola Tinubu’s past legal matters in the United States. Sani said presidential hopefuls should focus on convincing Nigerian voters with clear policies and grassroots mobilisation instead of seeking validation from the United States, the European Union or other foreign institutions. His comments follow controversy over Atiku Abubakar’s reported engagement of a Washington-based lobbying firm and renewed calls for public scrutiny of records connected to Tinubu’s US civil forfeiture case. Atiku’s camp has maintained that Nigerians deserve answers, while the Presidency has accused it of internationalising a domestic political dispute. Sani argued that the 2027 election will be decided by Nigerians, not foreign governments, and urged opposition parties to make their case directly to the electorate.
