Army Urges Continuous Training as 32 Artillery Brigade Wins Combat Competition

The General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Auwalu Mahmuda, has urged officers to stay tactically and operationally ahead of criminal and security threats through regular training. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Inter-Brigade Combat Proficiency Competition in Akure, Mahmuda said constant drills would strengthen troop readiness. He said the exercise tested leadership, endurance, teamwork, weapon handling, shooting, swimming and obstacle-crossing skills. The 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, emerged overall winner. The 4 Brigade, Benin, came second, while the 12 Brigade, Lokoja, placed third. The 42 Engineer, Ibadan, and 2 Division Garrison, Ibadan, finished fourth and fifth respectively. The Army chief commended the participating formations and called for sustained collaboration among security agencies and other stakeholders to address the country’s security challenges.
