Governors Reject Claims of Poor Accountability for Fuel Subsidy Funds
The Nigeria Governors’ Forum has rejected claims that state governments failed to account for funds received after the removal of fuel subsidy. Speaking after the forum’s meeting in Abuja, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri said the allegation was untrue and that the accountability debate could be addressed separately. The governors also backed the proposed National Affordable CNG Transit Programme. They said expanded CNG vehicle conversions, fleets and related infrastructure could lower transport fares, ease inflationary pressure and reduce costs for Nigerians. The forum further pledged to support state participation in upcoming African trade events aimed at attracting investment, promoting exports, tourism and small businesses.
