FG Begins Six-Week Review of Tax Laws Over VAT, Withholding Tax and Multiple Taxation
The Federal Government has begun a six-week review of Nigeria’s tax laws following concerns from businesses, investors and other stakeholders about implementation challenges. The review will examine VAT thresholds, withholding tax, capital gains tax and multiple taxation. Stakeholders submitted 134 proposals, including calls for simpler compliance, faster tax refunds, stronger taxpayer protections and better coordination among revenue agencies. The chair of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee said the exercise is not intended to cancel the 2025 reforms. Instead, it will identify unclear provisions and recommend practical adjustments for the proposed Finance Bill 2027. The committee will also consider measures to protect small businesses, reduce repeated documentation demands and support investment in sectors such as mining, renewable energy, healthcare and capital markets.
