Anambra Bans Asphalt Paving During Rainy-Season Conditions

Anambra Bans Asphalt Paving During Rainy-Season Conditions

The Anambra State Government has banned asphalt laying during unsuitable rainy-season conditions as part of stricter quality-control measures for road projects. Works and Infrastructure Commissioner Okey Ezeobi told contractors to stop paving whenever heavy rain could affect construction quality. Roads that fail to meet approved engineering standards will not be accepted by the state. The government said contractors will be held responsible for defects caused by poor workmanship or non-compliance with specifications. Violations may lead to sanctions, including contract termination. Officials say regular inspections and stronger supervision are intended to protect public funds and deliver safer, longer-lasting roads for Anambra residents.

Stricter quality control sounds sensible if it prevents roads from deteriorating soon after construction.

A ban is reasonable, but enforcement and proper project supervision will matter more than the announcement itself.

Contractors should plan paving around reliable weather windows and document any stoppages caused by heavy rain.
