Two Remanded After Pleading Not Guilty to Alleged Cybercrime Charges Against EFCC

A Federal High Court in Abuja has remanded Maryam Isah Shehu and Abubakar Shuraim Abdulhamad after they pleaded not guilty to separate cybercrime-related charges filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Shehu is accused of using Instagram to publish claims that EFCC officials assaulted a man on the instruction of a zonal director who allegedly collected ₦20 million. Abdulhamad is accused of sharing an image allegedly fabricated to resemble an EFCC arrest placard. Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ordered Shehu's remand at the Suleja Correctional Centre and Abdulhamad's remand at the Kuje Correctional Centre. The case was adjourned until August 31, 2026, for hearing of their bail applications and commencement of trial.
