Umahi Rejects Claims That Lagos-Calabar Highway Is Causing Flooding
Works Minister David Umahi has dismissed claims that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is responsible for flooding in nearby Lagos communities. Speaking during an Arise TV interview, Umahi said the road was built above flood level after engineering studies found that several homes along the corridor were below flood level. He said flooding in the area existed before construction began. According to the minister, the highway has about 10 evacuation channels and several culverts designed to direct water towards the lagoon. He maintained that the project would not worsen flooding in surrounding communities.
