Bauchi Man Misses Daughter’s Wedding, Remains in DSS Custody Nine Months Without Trial
Rabiu Habibu Wanka was reportedly arrested by DSS operatives in Bauchi on January 8, 2026, a day before his daughter’s wedding. His family said the arrest took place in front of his children and neighbours, and that officers searched the home and took personal items. At a Federal High Court hearing in May, Wanka’s lawyer said he had remained in DSS custody for four months without being arraigned or formally charged. The lawyer asked the court to order his release or direct the DSS to bring him before a court. The Take-It-Back Movement has also called for Wanka’s release or trial. Publicly available reports do not confirm the outcome of the June hearing, while the DSS had not publicly stated the reason for his arrest.
