Kano Student Builds QX Alpha Humanoid Robot for Security and Hazardous Tasks

A 21-year-old final-year Computer Engineering student at Baze University, Abuja, has built QX Alpha, a humanoid robot designed to support real-world problem-solving in Africa. The robot is built on the Robot Operating System and can communicate, move, operate autonomously, or be remotely controlled. Its initial applications include surveillance, bomb detection and work in environments considered too dangerous for humans. The inventor says the current humanoid design can be modified into a stronger, more rugged form for specific security missions. He also hopes to create a platform that gives more young Nigerians access to robotics training, tools and resources. The project combines locally available materials with imported components and grew from an earlier remote-controlled humanoid exoskeleton project that earned him a NITDA scholarship.
