FG Hails RCCG’s $265,854 Donation to Evacuate Nigerians From South Africa

FG Hails RCCG’s $265,854 Donation to Evacuate Nigerians From South Africa

The Federal Government has thanked the Redeemed Christian Church of God for donating $265,854 to support the evacuation of Nigerians affected by xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks in South Africa. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the donation will fund 500 one-way tickets for stranded Nigerians. The government began evacuations on June 10, 2026, and has since returned 1,640 Nigerians, including 255 whose travel was funded through donations. About 202 Nigerians are awaiting final screening by South African authorities before they can return. Nigeria says its diplomatic missions in Pretoria and Johannesburg remain available to assist citizens seeking evacuation. The government added that it is engaging South African authorities over recurring attacks on Nigerians and other African nationals.
