Lagos Ramps Up Ebola Surveillance and Emergency Response
The Lagos State Government says there is no immediate threat of Ebola in the state despite an ongoing outbreak in parts of Central and East Africa. Biosecurity and emergency response systems have been fully activated and tested. Governor Sanwo-Olu has directed intensified surveillance at airports, land and sea entry points. The state’s Incident Command System and Emergency Operations Centre operate 24/7, with epidemiologists and surveillance specialists on standby for rapid deployment. The Lagos Mainland Infectious Disease Hospital now has dedicated triage systems, isolation wards and a Biosafety Level-3 laboratory in place. Strategic stockpiles of PPE, ambulances and critical supplies have been positioned across the state. Community health workers and civil society groups are integrated into an early warning network. Residents who have travelled to affected regions or been in contact with travelers are advised to seek medical guidance if they experience symptoms.
