FG Explains ₦70,000 Monthly Transport Support for Civil Servants Ahead of Wage Talks
The Federal Government says its ₦70,000 monthly transport support for civil servants is a temporary six-month measure to cushion rising living costs. Eligible workers are expected to receive ₦420,000 over the period in addition to their regular pay. The government stressed that the payment is not a negotiated wage increase or a permanent salary review. It said the intervention is intended to provide immediate relief while discussions on a sustainable wage settlement continue. The next minimum wage review is due in July 2027 under the three-year review cycle. The government says it has agreed to begin negotiations early, with labour, employers and the Budget Office expected to take part.
