Tinubu Promises Structural Overhaul to Return Nigeria’s Refineries to Operation
President Bola Tinubu says his administration will revive Nigeria’s refineries through a structural overhaul aimed at making them efficient, profitable and sustainable rather than relying on temporary repairs. Speaking during a meeting with the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers in Abuja, Tinubu said the government would carry out technical, financial and management assessments to address the facilities’ long-standing problems. He said functional refineries are important to energy security and the wider economy. The President also promised to involve NUPENG more closely in the compressed natural gas initiative and said issues around local government autonomy were under review. The union urged the government to sustain refinery rehabilitation, arguing that stronger local refining capacity could reduce fuel imports, create jobs and improve petroleum product supply.
