BEDC Raises Staff Salaries After Agreement With Labour Unions
Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) says salary increases for all staff will take effect on Dec. 1. The agreement followed negotiations with the National Union of Electricity Employees and the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies, which began in March. Representatives met with management on Nov. 6 to finalise the deal. Acting Managing Director Jonathan Lawani said the agreement reflects a commitment to staff welfare and the company’s performance. He described the recent workers’ industrial action as avoidable, saying it caused revenue losses, reputational damage and hardship for electricity consumers. Lawani also said BEDC’s approved operational expenditure framework has remained largely unchanged since 2013, despite rising costs. He noted that access to the full allocation depends on meeting collection performance targets.
