Florida Parents Charged After Allegedly Smothering 3-Week-Old and Staging His Death
A Florida couple, 21-year-old Crystal Garcia and 25-year-old Anfernee Watts, were arrested and charged this week with aggravated manslaughter in the death of their three-week-old son. Authorities say the pair gave conflicting statements and manipulated the scene to suggest the infant died in his sleep. Court records reveal that the child’s death was later ruled a suffocation. Investigators allege Garcia tightly wrapped the baby in a blanket, strapped him in a car seat and placed him in a bathtub while playing loud music to muffle his cries. Both parents are also charged with child neglect, evidence tampering and lying to police. According to the arrest affidavit, the home was heavily cleaned before officers arrived and surveillance footage shows Garcia disposing of items shortly before calling 911. The couple remains in Broward County Jail awaiting trial.
