Ogun APC Primary Dispute: Why Yayi’s Ticket Could Face Legal Scrutiny

The court ruling that nullified Isa Pantami’s PDP governorship candidacy in Gombe should remind political parties that disputed primaries can become serious legal liabilities. In Ogun, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, known as Yayi, was declared APC governorship candidate after the May 21 primary, with 304,055 votes. Fellow aspirant Abayomi Hunye was recorded as polling zero and has challenged the process, alleging irregularities involving his suspension, accreditation, result sheets and the conduct of the primary. These claims remain allegations for the party and the courts to determine. However, Ogun APC should address legitimate procedural questions with clear records and compliance with its constitution and electoral laws.
