At 44, I Am Learning That Life Is Only a Loan

Forty-four years is more than a measure of time. It is a reminder of how much of life has already become memory. I have watched people build great things, hold powerful titles and chase applause, only for time to move on. I have learned that vanity is the belief that ambition can make us permanent. At 44, I worry less about what I cannot keep. I care more about what I can leave behind: wisdom, kindness, courage and lives made better by my existence. Life has loaned me another year. What matters is being conscious enough to use it well before the loan is recalled.
