FG Reclaims Benin-Asaba Road for Dualisation as First Niger Bridge Gets Upgrades
The Federal Government has reclaimed the 136-kilometre Benin-Asaba Road after ending the concession arrangement that prevented direct intervention. Works Minister David Umahi said President Bola Tinubu has ordered a redesign and reconstruction of the route as a dual carriageway. Umahi said the project is intended to ease travel difficulties for motorists moving between the South-South and South-East. Design work is underway ahead of construction. He also announced upgrades to the First Niger Bridge, including resurfacing, solar lighting, CCTV coverage, observation centres and emergency turnaround points. The minister said the government is also progressing work on sections of the East-West Road, Enugu-Port Harcourt Road and the Second Niger Bridge bypass.
