Equatorial Guinea Police Accused of Pointing Guns at U.S. Deportees

Police in Equatorial Guinea allegedly pointed firearms at migrants deported from the United States during a confrontation at a hotel in Malabo, witnesses and footage reviewed by Reuters indicate. The incident reportedly began after deportees demanded access to mobile phones that had been confiscated. Officers wearing "National Police" shirts were seen with what appeared to be semi-automatic rifles as the dispute escalated. Footage showed one migrant apparently kneeling while others screamed. Deportees have also raised concerns about medical care, legal access and psychological distress during their stay at the hotel.
