Sokoto Police Warn Politicians Against Violence Ahead of Elections
The Sokoto State Police Command has met with political party leaders and local government chairmen ahead of campaigns and elections in the state. Commissioner of Police Hayatu Shaffa warned political actors against inflammatory statements and activities that could fuel violence. He urged parties to follow electoral rules, run peaceful campaigns and keep the police informed of potential threats. At a security workshop for council chairmen, Shaffa said communities must help security agencies identify people supporting criminal activities. He stressed that the police cannot tackle insecurity alone. Political parties and local government chairmen pledged to work with security agencies to maintain peace before, during and after the elections.
