Ghana Launches Marrify App to Verify a Partner’s Marital Status
Ghana has launched Marrify, a digital platform that allows users to check whether a prospective partner is legally married before taking the next step in a relationship. The app draws verified records from marriage registries, courts, local assemblies and the Ghana Gazette. It also helps users confirm whether wedding venues and officiants, including pastors and imams, are licensed to conduct marriages. Officials say the tool is intended to reduce fraud, bigamy and the emotional or financial consequences of discovering a partner’s hidden marital history after a wedding. Although it currently operates only within Ghana’s registry system, the idea is likely to spark discussion across West Africa.
