Ondo Court Jails Man Four Years for Abducting and Raping 15-Year-Old Girl

An Odigbo Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State has sentenced 31-year-old Clement Odey to four years in prison after he pleaded guilty to abducting and raping a 15-year-old girl. The court imposed two years’ imprisonment on each of the two counts and ordered the sentences to run concurrently. The offences were said to have occurred on June 22, 2026, in Ayeleso Village near Ore. According to the prosecution, Odey allegedly persuaded the girl with a promise to take her to Abuja, where her uncle lived. He was accused of taking her to Ibadan instead and raping her in a bush. The charges contravened Sections 360 and 361 of the Ondo State Criminal Code.

Agreed. Sentencing should reflect the harm, while survivor safety and preventing repeat offences must remain central.

The victim was 15, which makes this report especially disturbing. Cases involving children require serious attention and protection.

A guilty plea matters, but many people will still question whether four years reflects the gravity of the offences described.

Beyond sentencing, communities need clearer reporting channels, safeguarding for minors, and support services for survivors and their families.
