El-Rufai Files ₦10bn Suit Against ICPC Over Alleged Denial of Family Visits
Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has filed a ₦10 billion fundamental rights suit against the ICPC over allegations that the agency denied his wife and son access to him while he was in custody. The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1852/2026, was filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja on August 13, 2026. El-Rufai is asking the court to hold the ICPC, its chairman and the Attorney-General of the Federation accountable. He alleges that his wife, Aichatou Asabe, and son, Abba El-Rufai, were prevented from visiting him or bringing him food, medication and other necessities. He also claims that ICPC officers physically restrained and intimidated them on July 7. El-Rufai argues that the alleged actions violated his constitutional rights to dignity and privacy, as well as provisions of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
