Lagos 2027 Agenda Puts Jobs and Business Growth at the Centre
Lagos State officials and business leaders used the fourth Lagos Economic Roundtable to discuss the state’s economic priorities for 2027. Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget Ope George said plans should translate into jobs, stronger businesses and improved living standards. The priorities include infrastructure, skills development, economic diversification, food security, climate resilience and better use of data in public services. Cavista Holdings’ Kabir Shagaya said local businesses need reliable electricity, affordable capital, access to major buyers, skilled workers and predictable policies to grow into formal employers. He proposed using government procurement to support local firms and called for consistent policies and better infrastructure. Lagos Business School professor Olusegun Vincent urged the state to expand manufacturing and help viable informal businesses formalize. He said a more targeted approach could increase productive activity, employment and the tax base.
