Kebbi Police Arrest Man Over Alleged Qur’an Desecration in Ritual Case
Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man in Zuru over the alleged desecration of a Qur’an during a suspected fetish ritual. Police said the incident was reported in the Zango area on August 9. Investigators allege that the suspect and two accomplices, who are still at large, dug a pit in a woman’s room and buried a copy of the Qur’an with semen, kolanuts, underwear, dead animals and other suspected ritual items. The alleged ritual was reportedly intended to make the woman more submissive to her husband. Police said the act could have triggered unrest among Muslim residents. The arrested suspect is being investigated for conspiracy, abuse of religious books, use of spells and hypnosis, and inciting disturbance. The police commissioner condemned the alleged act and said the remaining suspects would be pursued before the case is taken to court.
