Dangote Refinery Targets World’s Largest Status by 2028 After Planned Expansion

Dangote Petroleum Refinery says it plans to expand its 700,000-barrels-per-day facility by 2028, with the goal of becoming the world’s largest integrated refinery and petrochemical complex. The announcement was made during a preliminary signing ceremony for the refinery’s proposed initial public offering. Aliko Dangote said the IPO would allow investors across Nigeria and Africa to own shares in the business, without restrictions based on investor category. The refinery is currently Africa’s largest and the world’s largest single-train refinery. Its chief executive, David Bird, said the plant supplies Nigeria, West Africa and international markets, including jet fuel exports to Europe. He added that engineering and procurement work for the expansion had been completed, leaving construction as the main outstanding phase.
